Hi, my name is Chris Young I am an artist and designer currently working as a project manager for the City of Pittsburgh.

I attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration. During my program I focused on the fundamentals of communication and story telling and applied them across many different mediums.

Professionally I have continued this generalist approach by matching the communication goals of a project with the most effective medium. An illustration of a new bridge design for a public meeting, a video trailer to promote City services, a webpage to share upcoming board and commissions agenda items.

My five years working for the City of Pittsburgh are defined by communicating complex planning, zoning, and infrastructure topics with the public through print and digital materials, websites, illustrations, .

Accomplishing this with limited resources meant working closely with my team, finding creative practical solutions, and wearing many, many, hats. In addition to content creation I planned and hosted public meeting, provided IT and AV support, as well as managed consultants for advertising, outreach, and publication projects.

Examples of my work and projects can be found below, and a full copy of my resume can be found here.

Most of my design work focuses on print and digital material for public outreach and meetings as well as forms, signage, and process documentation.

Outreach Design

Good design is the key to efficient and effective communication

I worked with the Office of the Mayor to update the city’s brand and assets and create a consistent look across departments. The update focused on bringing back historical colors and design elements and creating an easy to use asset library for city staff.

Some outreach required additional content to communicate complex designs or document the work that goes into a project.

To promote City services I filmed employees from across our departments and put together a trailer to play in lobbies and before City run events.
